What we do for kids.

Children's Dentist in Manchester Township, NJ

First dental visits

We recommend bringing children in around their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Early visits help kids get comfortable with the dental environment and let us catch any concerns before they develop into problems.

Cleanings and exams

Just like adults, kids need regular cleanings and exams. We check for cavities, monitor how their teeth are developing, and make sure everything is on track.

Fluoride treatments

Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and helps prevent cavities. We apply a fluoride treatment at cleanings for added protection, especially important during the cavity-prone childhood years.

Dental sealants

Sealants are a thin coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, where most childhood cavities form. They're quick, painless, and very effective at keeping decay out.

Cavity treatment

When kids do get cavities, we treat them gently and take the time to explain what we're doing so the experience isn't frightening. Many kids tell us it wasn't as bad as they thought.

Common questions about children's dentistry

What parents ask us.

When should my child first see a dentist?

Around their first birthday or when their first tooth comes in, whichever is earlier. Starting early gets kids used to the experience and helps us catch issues sooner.

What if my child is scared of the dentist?

Very common, and Dr. Terry is experienced with anxious kids. We go at the child's pace, explain what we're doing, and never rush. Most kids warm up faster than their parents expect.

How often should kids come in?

Every six months for cleanings and exams, same as adults. More frequently if they're cavity-prone.

Are dental X-rays safe for children?

Yes. We use digital X-rays that deliver very low levels of radiation, and we only take them when there's a clinical reason to do so. We also use lead aprons as a standard precaution.

At what age should I worry about my child's teeth coming in crooked?

Around age seven is when we start to get a clearer picture of how permanent teeth are developing. If we see anything worth monitoring or addressing, we'll let you know and talk through the options.
