Dental Crowns in Manchester Township, NJ

Protecting your teeth for the long run.

A crown covers and protects a tooth that's been cracked, heavily decayed, or worn down. It restores the shape, strength, and appearance of the tooth so you can keep it.

When a crown makes sense

You might need a crown if...

Dental Crowns in Manchester Township, NJ

Your tooth is cracked or broken

A crack that isn't treated tends to get worse, and can eventually lead to losing the tooth altogether. A crown holds the tooth together and stops the damage from spreading.

A tooth has too much decay for a filling

When decay is extensive, there isn't enough healthy tooth structure left to hold a filling reliably. A crown restores the full shape of the tooth and gives it back its strength.

You've just had a root canal

After a root canal, the tooth becomes more brittle and vulnerable to fracture. A crown protects it and allows it to function normally again.

A tooth is worn down

Years of grinding or wear can flatten and weaken teeth. Crowns rebuild the shape and protect what's left.

What to expect

How the process works.

The crown process usually takes two appointments. At the first, Dr. Terry prepares the tooth, takes an impression, and places a temporary crown. At the second appointment, the custom crown is fitted and cemented in place. The crown is matched to the color of your surrounding teeth.

Common questions about dental crowns

What people ask us.

How long does a crown last?

Most crowns last 10 to 15 years with good care. Some last considerably longer. It depends on the material, how well you maintain your oral hygiene, and whether you grind your teeth.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The tooth is numbed before the procedure. You may feel some pressure but shouldn't feel pain. There can be some sensitivity for a few days after, which usually settles on its own.

Will my crown look natural?

Yes. We use tooth-colored crowns that are matched to the surrounding teeth. Most people can't tell the difference.

Can a crown fall off?

It's uncommon, but it can happen, usually because the cement has weakened or the tooth underneath has decayed. If your crown feels loose or comes off, call us right away.

Is a crown covered by insurance?

Crowns are often covered at least partially by dental insurance, especially when they're placed for restorative rather than cosmetic reasons. We'll check your benefits before treatment.
